When I was in high school, I was very involved in my community’s
upcoming auditions. I loved acting and singing, and reveled in every second
of my time onstage. I even seriously considered a college major in Theatre.
In February of my senior year of high school, I went to New York to upcoming
auditions for a big music school. I was all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed,
until I realized something—I didn’t have the slightest clue
what I was doing. I’d auditioned for school plays, and variety shows
at my church, but I’d never been to an upcoming audition. My lack
of experience was very obvious to the judges, and I didn’t get into
the program.It all worked out for the best, because I ended up majoring
in communication studies, which I loved. But a big part of me has always
wanted to get back into amateur theatre, as a hobby. Unfortunately, that
experience of auditioning in New York has made me terrified of the entire
